Radio broadcasters are unique in their appreciation for the use of music in business. You helped form BMI in 1940 and continue to rely heavily on the use of music in your business to create a profitable work environment and place for your listeners to turn to everyday. The formation of BMI also gave songwriters a new voice and a new opportunity to receive representation for radio airplay.

BMI serves its customers by clearing the rights for businesses to publicly perform more than 6.5 million musical works in its repertoire. Operating on a non-profit- making basis, BMI provides an efficient, competitive licensing mechanism for businesses that choose to use copyrighted music. BMI‘s service saves time and money for businesses that would otherwise have to secure individual permission for every BMI represented work that they play.

Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) and the Radio Music License Committee (RMLC) recently announced a three-year term extension to the previous ten-year performing right agreement for commercial radio stations. The three-year period covered by the agreement is retroactive to January 1, 2007.

The agreement was submitted to Judge Louis J. Stanton in the Federal District Court of New York, who signed an Order on May 18 finalizing the accord. The new agreement offers the benefits of stability, simplified administration, and consistent fee levels to BMI and radio stations alike.
