BMI Chart Toppers Win Big at Billboard Awards

Mariah Carey continued her reign as 2005's comeback queen winning five trophies at the Billboard Music Awards, held December 6 in Las Vegas. Her smash hit "We Belong Together" earned her three of the five wins, including Rhythmic Top 40 Title, Hot 100 Song and Hot 100 Airplay of the Year. The songstress was also named Female Billboard 200 Album Artist of the Year and Female R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.

Mariah Carey Shakira Mario

Latina rocker Shakira took home three Billboard Music Awards, including Latin Song of the Year for "La Tortura," Latin Pop Album of the Year for Fijacion Oral Vol 1 and Latin Pop Album Artist of the Year.

Also winning big were r&b crooner Mario, whose song "Let Me Love You" took R&B/Hip-Hop Song and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Song of the Year, and country superstar Toby Keith, who was named Country Artist of the Year and Country Album Artist of the Year.

Other BMI winners included Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, who nabbed the Rap Song of the Year award for their collaboration "Lovers & Friends," and Kanye West, who scored the Artist Achievement Award.

Billboard Music Awards are based on sales data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and radio information monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. Winners are determined by the 2005 year-end charts, which reflect the weekly charts published from December 2004 through November 2005.
